Officials say co-pilot intentionally crashed Germanwings Airbus

Sunday, March 29, 2015

Officials said on Thursday, after analyzing data from the Germanwings Flight 9525 cockpit voice recorder, that the airbus crashed into the French Alps because its co-pilot deliberately crashed it.

On the cockpit voice recorder, the captain can be heard trying to get back into the cockpit. Transponder data indicates the autopilot was told to descend form 38,000 feet to 100 feet. The last part of the recording contains screaming during the sudden decent.

Investigators are still searching for the plane’s flight data recorder.

The co-pilot started training in 2008, and was diagnosed in 2009 with serious depression according to BBC News. Later he completed his training and passed all his tests to pilot, according to Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr.

In light of this incident, several airlines announced a ban on leaving any one person alone in the cockpit.

The flight path and altitude chart can be seen in the images below.

Get Fit With One Of The Best Fitness Programs

By Gary Holdon

One of the most difficult things to do when you want to get fit is to choose among all the fitness programs out there. So, what are the criteria for choosing one of these fitness programs? It depends on your initial level of fitness. You see, some fitness programs are aimed at different levels of fitness. Therefore it is smart to record your own fitness level by measuring for example your pulse rate after exercise as well as how many repetitions of a move you find possible. By doing this you will be able to measure the progress you make along with the fitness program you choose from the many programs available. Also expect to use a part of your leisure time for workout activities; you have to invest a certain amount of time to get fit.

There is seriously no point beginning a fitness program that requires daily workouts if you do not have enough free time every day. It is also a grand waste of time if the fitness program consists of exercises that you abhor and will regularly avoid. It’s momentous to be logical and choose a realistic plan that it will be easy to stick to.

Variations, a slow progression and assigning rest days are also important to a workout routine. Ensuring that you have all the tools needed at hand including water to hydrate the body will enable a workout to continue uninterrupted. Do not select a program that will overwhelm you and remember to leave time aside for a warm up to stretch the joints before and after the exercise. Keeping a record of progress and maintaining enough flexibility to add new or different features to the routine can help keep you motivated.

How Do You Stay Motivated With Fitness Programs?

The problem that most of us have with fitness programs is the struggle to stay motivated. This happens if our workout routine becomes boring, takes too much time or if we do not see some results fast enough. Setting goals and achievement points can be a great way to stay motivated. Work to complete short term goals and at the same time striving to achieve a long term achievement. If the goals are structured as small steps and realistic, there is less chance of getting frustrated or disheartened and quit completely. Building up at a natural pace can give your body the capability to succeed and accomplishing something for the first time can be a great motivator.

Sticking to fitness programs can also depend on your personality. If you hate to be alone and as a social person, you may find jogging alone every morning a chore so a team sport or a class could be a better usage of your time. Likewise, if you feel that you need time alone to concentrate or focus on your fitness program, joining an aerobics class may not be the best choice for you. It is important to look forward to the workout you choose to perform because if it is drudgery it will become something you learn to dread and avoid.

People who have trained much knows that using a regular workout routine day in and day out can be boring. One very effective way of handling this is trying to fit part of your fitness workout program into your daily activities. Examples of this might be using stairs instead of elevators, don’t drive but walk to your work etc. Fitness programs do not have to be boring, so make it flexible, easy to change and fun; this is the best way to stay motivated to keep on working out.

A380 collides with regional jet at JFK airport

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

On Monday, an Air France Airbus A380, operating as Air France Flight 007, collided with a Comair Bombardier CRJ-700, operating as Comair flight 553/Delta Connection flight 6293 in Delta Connection livery, on a taxiway at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The A380 had 520 people onboard, and the smaller plane had 66.

The Comair jet had just arrived from Boston Logan International Airport, and was stopped on the tarmac, awaiting a gate to offload passengers. The A380 was preparing to depart for Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, and was taxiing along a taxiway when its wingtip struck the tail of the other plane. The impact spun the CRJ around 90 degrees and resulted in some damage to both planes.

A passenger on board the A380 said that “It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole—a jolt—but it didn’t feel right [it felt] like that shouldn’t be happening.”

LiveATC.net captured the recording of the flight deck and ground control communications before and after the incident. In the recording, one can hear controllers giving taxi instructions to the Air France plane, then later a controller calling for emergency personnel to the intersection of taxiways Alpha and Mike.

The National Transportation Safety Board plans to investigate the incident, and will study the flight recorders, air traffic control recordings, and data from radar on the ground.

Wednesday, an over-90-year-old Manns Mitre 10 hardware store, run by Alex P Mann Pty Ltd, closed until further notice after a rent dispute in Port Adelaide, South Australia. The rent dispute involved $315,060.70 of rent for months of September 2012 to January 2013 unpaid to the landlord, Fourteen Sails Pty Ltd. The site was distrained. The store had to fire about 40–50 employees without a warning in advance.

The store was closed three days before Australia Day, January 26, Saturday.

The store administrator, Tim Clifton, said they had to ring the workers out of the blue: “I was advised the landlord had distrained for unpaid rent over the business and that left the directors in the position where the business was untenable. I presume at this stage trading was poor and the company just didn’t have the money to pay the rent. … Unfortunately they had to terminate their employment this morning and we’ve rung them all. We’ll do our best to get them their entitlements under the government schemes, and we calculate what they’re owed in the next few days and hopefully get that underway for them. … It’s a sad day. It’s a sign of the times isn’t it. Things are tough out there.”

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union state secretary Dave Kirner said workers were not allowed to collect their personal belongings left inside of the store: “I spoke with a worker who said the locks have been changed, they were asked to leave and all their personal belongings are in there”.

On Saturday, Wikinews took photos of the documents available at the store entrance. The rent dispute details and an inventory were available for everyone to read. During the ten minutes of taking photos, around seven people visited the closed entrance and read the documents a first time. One of them commented, “oh hey, Bunnings will be stronger”.

The store owner, Jarred Spearman, reported negotiations ongoing with the landlord and said he would “hopefully try to work [our] way out of this … We are pretty lucky to have the customers and staff we had”.

Port Adelaide Mayor Gary Johanson said the loss of the store is a significant loss as Port Adelaide is being redeveloped: “Their staff were extremely good, the service levels were high, the store was always well stocked and it was a great example of a family business. That will be a great loss to the Port.” “The landlord is not at fault here. The landlord is acting within their rights. … This is the sort of thing we cannot afford to lose if we’re serious about the Port being redeveloped. This is not a multinational company. This is a franchise of a bigger company but it is a family franchise and it employs a lot of staff. The staff that they employ are local people and they’re employing large amounts of staff in relation to their turnover. We need to take stock of what local businesses we have left and say, how can we ensure they stay with us?”

Where To Hide Your Hidden Camera?

By Dan Crane

People like to observe and watch what’s going on when they’re away. For security purposes or just to satisfy their desire to spy. Many want to discover what their spouse is doing at home alone or how a babysitter is taking care of the baby when both parents are working.

These people sometimes get confused and don’t even know where to hide their cameras in the house. Which area is safest (meaning that the camera won’t be spotted)? Which place people wouldn’t want to look at and so on.

Below, we’ll try to look at some of the best places in the house where one would want to hide his or her spy camera in order to observe and record various activities in the area.

Hiding Spy Camera in a Bedroom

If a person is concerned whether the spouse is cheating or not, the most obvious place to install a hidden camera would be in a bedroom.

But which place in a bedroom would be best to put the hidden cam?

Nightstand – Ok, most bedroom have nightstands, right. So one of the best places to put a hidden camera into would be a nightstand, behind some regular object, like a clock or radio. You could get a hidden camera already built into a clock and put it right on the nightstand.

Curtain-Rod – Another place could be a curtain-rod. If you can get a tiny spy camera, which is barely seen from a 10 feet distance, you could mount it on the top of the curtain or curtain-rod. You could get much better viewing angle and record everything without much trouble.

TV Set – Many people have TV’s in bedrooms. So putting a tiny camera near the TV or on top of TV would be a good idea. Of course, the spy camera should be hidden and not look like a spy camera.

PC – Some people have PC’s in their bedrooms. One could simply replace the regular speakers with new ones, which already have a spy camera installed and perform secret surveillance this way.

Book Shelf – Placing a hidden camera in a book shelf might be a good idea. Especially when the hidden camera is in a shape of the book.

Placing a Hidden Camera in a Living Room

Teddy Bear – Many people have all kinds of plush toys. It’s possible to simply take one and put a camera inside.

Toy Cars – If there are any toy cars in the living room or any other room, you could put a small micro camera into that toy and spy on the others.

Mirrors – You could buy a two-sided mirror and put a spy camera there. Otherwise, it’s possible to buy a mirror with a hidden camera built inside already.

Lamps – You could take one light bulb or lamp out and put a spy camera inside. Then put the light back and start surveillance. Just make sure than someone doesn’t try to repair it.

Flowers – You could put a small camera inside a flower pot and put it on a windowsill for instance. If you have some flowers in the living room or plants, this won’t look odd.

Switches – Tiny cameras could be placed into light switches. Some light switches have covers, which help mask the spy camera’s lenses.

Placing a Hidden Camera in a Kitchen

Lastly, you might want to put a spy camera in the kitchen. This wouldn’t look suspicious if you put a clock in the kitchen somewhere.

There are already designed spy cameras that look like coffee mugs. Could you find a better place for such item other than kitchen?

Lastly, you could get one of those wearable spy cameras and put it wherever you want. Bedroom, living room, kitchen or office room. Nowhere such item will look suspicious. They can be pens, glasses, lighters, cell phones etc.

KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald has performed an interview with Dr Isabella Margara, a London-based member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). In the interview Margara sets out the communist response to current events in Greece as well as discussing the viability of a communist economy for the nation. She also hit back at Petros Tzomakas, a member of another Greek far-left party which criticised KKE in a previous interview.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.

Cleveland, Ohio clinic performs US’s first face transplant

Thursday, December 18, 2008

A team of eight transplant surgeons in Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, led by reconstructive surgeon Dr. Maria Siemionow, age 58, have successfully performed the first almost total face transplant in the US, and the fourth globally, on a woman so horribly disfigured due to trauma, that cost her an eye. Two weeks ago Dr. Siemionow, in a 23-hour marathon surgery, replaced 80 percent of her face, by transplanting or grafting bone, nerve, blood vessels, muscles and skin harvested from a female donor’s cadaver.

The Clinic surgeons, in Wednesday’s news conference, described the details of the transplant but upon request, the team did not publish her name, age and cause of injury nor the donor’s identity. The patient’s family desired the reason for her transplant to remain confidential. The Los Angeles Times reported that the patient “had no upper jaw, nose, cheeks or lower eyelids and was unable to eat, talk, smile, smell or breathe on her own.” The clinic’s dermatology and plastic surgery chair, Francis Papay, described the nine hours phase of the procedure: “We transferred the skin, all the facial muscles in the upper face and mid-face, the upper lip, all of the nose, most of the sinuses around the nose, the upper jaw including the teeth, the facial nerve.” Thereafter, another team spent three hours sewing the woman’s blood vessels to that of the donor’s face to restore blood circulation, making the graft a success.

The New York Times reported that “three partial face transplants have been performed since 2005, two in France and one in China, all using facial tissue from a dead donor with permission from their families.” “Only the forehead, upper eyelids, lower lip, lower teeth and jaw are hers, the rest of her face comes from a cadaver; she could not eat on her own or breathe without a hole in her windpipe. About 77 square inches of tissue were transplanted from the donor,” it further described the details of the medical marvel. The patient, however, must take lifetime immunosuppressive drugs, also called antirejection drugs, which do not guarantee success. The transplant team said that in case of failure, it would replace the part with a skin graft taken from her own body.

Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, a Brigham and Women’s Hospital surgeon praised the recent medical development. “There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.

Leading bioethicist Arthur Caplan of the University of Pennsylvania withheld judgment on the Cleveland transplant amid grave concerns on the post-operation results. “The biggest ethical problem is dealing with failure — if your face rejects. It would be a living hell. If your face is falling off and you can’t eat and you can’t breathe and you’re suffering in a terrible manner that can’t be reversed, you need to put on the table assistance in dying. There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.

Dr Alex Clarke, of the Royal Free Hospital had praised the Clinic for its contribution to medicine. “It is a real step forward for people who have severe disfigurement and this operation has been done by a team who have really prepared and worked towards this for a number of years. These transplants have proven that the technical difficulties can be overcome and psychologically the patients are doing well. They have all have reacted positively and have begun to do things they were not able to before. All the things people thought were barriers to this kind of operations have been overcome,” she said.

The first partial face transplant surgery on a living human was performed on Isabelle Dinoire on November 27 2005, when she was 38, by Professor Bernard Devauchelle, assisted by Professor Jean-Michel Dubernard in Amiens, France. Her Labrador dog mauled her in May 2005. A triangle of face tissue including the nose and mouth was taken from a brain-dead female donor and grafted onto the patient. Scientists elsewhere have performed scalp and ear transplants. However, the claim is the first for a mouth and nose transplant. Experts say the mouth and nose are the most difficult parts of the face to transplant.

In 2004, the same Cleveland Clinic, became the first institution to approve this surgery and test it on cadavers. In October 2006, surgeon Peter Butler at London‘s Royal Free Hospital in the UK was given permission by the NHS ethics board to carry out a full face transplant. His team will select four adult patients (children cannot be selected due to concerns over consent), with operations being carried out at six month intervals. In March 2008, the treatment of 30-year-old neurofibromatosis victim Pascal Coler of France ended after having received what his doctors call the worlds first successful full face transplant.

Ethical concerns, psychological impact, problems relating to immunosuppression and consequences of technical failure have prevented teams from performing face transplant operations in the past, even though it has been technically possible to carry out such procedures for years.

Mr Iain Hutchison, of Barts and the London Hospital, warned of several problems with face transplants, such as blood vessels in the donated tissue clotting and immunosuppressants failing or increasing the patient’s risk of cancer. He also pointed out ethical issues with the fact that the procedure requires a “beating heart donor”. The transplant is carried out while the donor is brain dead, but still alive by use of a ventilator.

According to Stephen Wigmore, chair of British Transplantation Society’s ethics committee, it is unknown to what extent facial expressions will function in the long term. He said that it is not certain whether a patient could be left worse off in the case of a face transplant failing.

Mr Michael Earley, a member of the Royal College of Surgeon‘s facial transplantation working party, commented that if successful, the transplant would be “a major breakthrough in facial reconstruction” and “a major step forward for the facially disfigured.”

In Wednesday’s conference, Siemionow said “we know that there are so many patients there in their homes where they are hiding from society because they are afraid to walk to the grocery stores, they are afraid to go the the street.” “Our patient was called names and was humiliated. We very much hope that for this very special group of patients there is a hope that someday they will be able to go comfortably from their houses and enjoy the things we take for granted,” she added.

In response to the medical breakthrough, a British medical group led by Royal Free Hospital’s lead surgeon Dr Peter Butler, said they will finish the world’s first full face transplant within a year. “We hope to make an announcement about a full-face operation in the next 12 months. This latest operation shows how facial transplantation can help a particular group of the most severely facially injured people. These are people who would otherwise live a terrible twilight life, shut away from public gaze,” he said.

Musical Fountain With Laser Lights Enrich The Height Of Beauty

Musical Fountain with Laser Lights – Enrich the Height of Beauty

by

premier

Beauty and technology always walk side by side. The newer and more advance technologies are invented to make our life more comfortable, more beautiful. That is why the relation between this two cannot be ignored nor suppressed.

Musical fountain is one such big example where technology and estheticism mingled with each other perfectly. People watch the shows of

musical fountain

and become amuse but there a vast technology is working to produce that heavenly effect infront of millions eyes every day.

In our India the technology that we see normally behind this kind of shows are not so developed. But there is a huge transformation in this field of amusement. With the advent of software and other technical equipments this kinds of fountains are no more an ordinary water fountain with moving waters in one single flow and direction. Now it has music, choreography, light, laser and many more complex yet easy to handle tools and technology to produce water in a new from and shape infront of the viewers. One can easily understand that an efficient hand is very much required to run all these in a smooth way so that none of these sections get hampered.

When laser is attached with water shows it increase the appeal of the whole show and there is no doubt about that. The definition of Laser is an Acronym, Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. The articulate nature of laser light allows a narrow beam to be produced which is extremely focused and visible, that allows the use of optical scanning to portray patterns or images on walls, ceilings or other surfaces. That is why it can be finely used with any

musical fountains

to create more charm. Early laser “shows” were often static beam array sculptures and did not use the scanned imagery we are familiar with in today’s shows. With the advent of position-detecting galvos and microcomputers, it became possible to accurately position the beam, thus allowing for the projection of words, pictures and animations with the laser.

It is not as simple as it is heard or read. A strong maintained group of expert hardware, software and hydraulic engineers has to be there to produce flawless

laser and water shows

in the well known amusement parks of this world.

The modern and advance musical fountains have Animation Control and Choreography System Software (ACCESS) which is a window based program, written only for fountains. This software provides total support for all latest fountains; this was designed with twenty years of experience. The software allows both manual and automatic control of the fountain, with adjustment of all the lights and valves. All these work process require a perfect understanding between the computer hardware and the software that actually controls the fountain. The software plays an important role in the choreography as it determines the duration, flow and angels of the water according to the music.

Scholar says Jehovah’s Witnesses wrong about blood transfusions

Sunday, February 4, 2007

Bible scholar Professor Michael Duggan, who teaches biblical literature at the Catholic St. Mary’s University College in Calgary, Alberta, says the Jehovah’s Witnesses have taken a bible reading out of context which the parents of Canada’s first sextuplets used to back up their belief.

His comment is regarding the following text from Leviticus 17:10-14:

And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

Duggan says the passages refer to the blood of slaughtered animals. He also argues the “way the Jehovah’s Witnesses read the biblical text is simply wrong.”

“The point that I make to the physicians is none of these texts has to do with human blood,” said Duggan. “Certainly, they never had to do with transfusions.”

“What they have to do with is the handling of animals that are slaughtered and the cooking and the procedures in cooking the meat so as to be free of contamination and disease.”

The parents of the sextuplets tried to stop the hospital from giving their babies a blood transfusion. The Government of British Columbia gave four of them transfusions. It only became public on Friday.

Two of the infants have died from ailments that physicians argued could have been helped by blood transfusions.

The parents are now asking the B.C. government for an apology, as their right to practice their religion has been interrupted.
