Hands On Health: The Healing Benefits Of Massage

Hands-On Health: The Healing Benefits of Massage

by

Nicky Pilkington

The healing power of human touch is a positive experience that many people enjoy through therapeutic massage or bodywork. The effects of a good massage go much deeper than the skin’s surface. Massage can:

1) Help improve circulation of the blood and lower blood pressure. 2) Act as a detoxification system by propelling toxic waste products through the lymphatic system. 3) Help to improve muscle tone and prevent muscular atrophy resulting from inactivity or illness. 4) Reduce emotional stress and promote a sense of well-being. How can something as simple as this hands-on therapy have so many positive benefits? A tense or painful muscle is one which is often chronically contracted. In an acute situation such as recent injury, the muscle can be in actual spasm. This contraction or spasm decreases the flow of blood to the muscle, which leads to a decrease in the nutrient and oxygen supply to the cells of the muscle and related nerves. A chronically contracted muscle will build up lactic acid, a sign of fatigue. This oxygen shortage and lactic acid buildup irritates the nerve cells, which perpetuates the contracted muscles. Massage can help remove the lactic acid and other metabolic waste products from the cells and reverse this process, interrupting the vicious cycle of pain-spasm-pain. There are a multitude of massage styles which are beneficial, depending upon the individual’s needs and preferences. They include: Swedish Massage: this is the basic “relaxation” style of bodywork, which uses long strokes, squeezing and kneading. The Swedish practitioner helps to improve circulation by working to loosen or relax the superficial layers of muscle. This type of massage is particularly useful for muscles which are already sore from stress or a tough workout, as it is often more gentle than other styles. Sports Massage: this form of massage works on a deeper level of musculature or connective tissue. This style fits more with the “no pain, no gain” philosophy. The therapist uses slow, hard strokes and deep, sustained finger pressure to work deeply into the contracted muscles, fascia and tendons. This technique increases flexibility, encourages muscles to work at their fullest capacity, and speeds up the healing process by reducing swelling following an injury. It is especially indicated for athletes and “week-end warriors” who suffer from tight or sore muscles. Shiatsu and Acupressure: rather than being simply relaxing, this form of bodywork tends to be invigorating. Fingers, thumbs, fists and elbows are used to apply pressure to points along acupuncture meridians, which are believed to be the energy pathways of the body. The focus of this type of therapy is on relieving blocks in the pathways and rebalancing the flow of energy. Reflexology and Zone Therapy: reflexology works on the assumption that parts of the feet (as well as parts of the ears and hands) correspond to other parts of the body’s anatomy. In other words, stress or illness in a certain part of the body may show up as a painful or sensitive area on a specific area of the foot. Reflexologists apply pressure to the side, top or bottom of the feet to help reduce dysfunction in other parts of the body. Not all techniques work for everyone, so make sure to inquire about the philosophy and style of the massage therapist you call. If your massage isn’t as satisfying as you had hoped, don’t give up. Try another therapist! Massage therapy schools are a cost-effective way to test out different styles of massage; senior students generally work for lower fees while they complete their internship. There are a few conditions in which massage would not be a good option, such as marked inflammation, fever, significant swelling or very severe pain. But for the garden variety aches and pains that most of us experience, as well as for the general stresses of life, massage is an outstanding way to treat ourselves to a positive, revitalizing experience.

‘The Administrators were a disaster for the Shire’: Wikinews interviews Lindsay Love, Tarwin Valley ward candidate in South Gippsland, Australia

Sunday, September 26, 2021

Nominations were declared on Tuesday for South Gippsland Shire’s upcoming council elections, to be held by post from October 5-22. A total of 24 people in the Australian council’s three wards have put themselves forward to stand as candidates. The shire has been governed by administrators appointed by the Victorian state government since August 2019, when the council was sacked after a state government inquiry found “high levels of tension” within the council.

Wikinews interviewed one of the candidates standing in this election, Lindsay Love, via email. Love is contesting the Tarwin Valley ward, which elects three councillors to the South Gippsland Shire Council, and includes the towns of Leongatha and Mirboo North. In addition to her answers to the questions from Wikinews, Love also provided the following statement in regards to the state of the council:

“I also note that the Council satisfaction rating has been dismal for over ten years. That is a period covering various Council terms and the Administrators. The only constant has been the Administration. That would suggest that to improve the culture the change needs to be in the Administration. That means the Council has to operate like a corporate Board and give the CEO the required directions to effect a change.”

Itchy Skin Parasites Morgellons Rewrites Dna?}

Itchy Skin Parasites Morgellons Rewrites DNA?

by

Richard Kuhns

Itchy Skin Parasites are fairly new to most people. Unfortunately most doctors swear that sufferers of these itchy skin parasites have vivid imagination and instead have a obsession with parasites–it’s all in their head.

But are they really new or have they been around for centuries? Maybe Job of the Old Testament was the first recorded sufferer. More recently the skin parasites have been given a name. In 2002 the name ‘Morgellons’ was coined by a woman from PA, Mary Leita, whose son had an unexplained rash. While investigating her son’s unexplained rash with fibers growing from the skin she found a letter to a friend by Sir Thomas Browne, in 1690, wherein he describes several medical conditions in his experience, including that endemial distemper of children in Languedoc, called the morgellons, wherein they critically break out with harsh hairs on their backs. For a while there after and for some still today all itchy skin parasites were believed to be Morgellons. But that’s not necessarily correct. My first experience with itchy skin parasites happened in the mid 90’s long before the word, “Morgellon’s,” came to be. Although I had many of the symptoms, I didn’t have all of them. The symptoms are:intense itchy skin where it feels like bitingnon healing lesionrasheshard nodules under the skinblack specsfibers growing from the skinred spots on the skincotton like fuzz ballschronic fatiguebrain foghair lossIt was assumed that if one had several of those symptoms, Morgellons was the culprit. Unfortunately Morgellons can’t be diagnosed–there are no medical tests to identify the parasite. If fact it’s not even proven that it’s a parasite. This is why many doctors believe that it’s a figment of the sufferers’ imagination. After I heard of the word, I believed I had Morgellons. After all, how could anything else itch and bite so intensely? It’s a serious disease. The message boards are full of people whose lives have literally been ruined–financially and socially. Many have committed suicide. Fortunately for me I found that there is a relationship between the foods that I ate and the severity of the symptoms. If fact by avoiding certain foods all symptoms literally disappeared. I also found that ORAP, prescribed by my doctor, made the diet, which is a very strict diet, a bit more flexible. Later in 2004 I learned of other specific parasites which produce many of the symptoms listed above, but not all of them. Specifically there’s strongyloides stercoralis (a nematode). And there’s alsocollembola–spring tails which many specialist argue can’t exist on humans. While strongyloides seracoralis can be identified and diagnosed via a blood serum test, collembola can not be identified or diagnosed. However, neither of these parasites create fibers growing from the skin whereas Morgellon’s produces fibers that are actually florescent under an ultra violet lamp. I published the diet that I discovered. I submitted questionnaires to many subscribers of the diet and found that dozens and dozens of parasites sufferers, not only from strongyloides seracoralis and collembola, but also from Morgellons have benefited. In fact many sufferers, after being on the diet a few weeks, thought that they were cured only to find out that when they went off the diet for a week to ten days the symptoms returned. Over all, the diet has made a difference between being a financial disaster and a social outcast for nearly everyone who has used the diet. Morgellon’s sufferers, on the other hand, had to stay with the strictest part of the diet to get rid of the intense itching. If you research Morgellons, you’ll find that there’s some evidence that Morgellons rewrites one’s genetic code–rewirtes the DNA. This is not surprising as there are many free radicals that do exactly that–often creating cancers. But in this case, Morgellons. In December of 09 we might have witnessed our first real progress against Morgellons with the use of a glutathione accelerator. Glutathione is a tri peptide that occurs naturally in every cell. It is the most powerful antioxidant known–it is capable of neutralizing all known free radicals. By using a specific glutathione accelerator, we found that Morgellons sufferers, along with the diet (I call it the King Diet because it’s king–nothing better), began experiencing significant improvements in their physical conditions. Why is this so?Connecting the dots we know that stress, disease, infections, aging, drugs, pollution, radiation and so on deplete the body’s stores of glutathione. With insufficient glutathione Morgellons can easily rewrite the genetic code and run rampant. However, by significantly boosting glutathione we seem to be stopping the reign of Morgellons. Using this specific glutathione accelerator, which boosts glutathione inside the cell by 276% within two weeks, those using it along with the diet notice many changes:brain fog associated with the disease goes awayhard nodules decrease in sizefewer lesions and less frequentlyfatigue disappearsinflammation and pain associated with the disease go awayimproved color of skinspider-like lines under the skin diminishAlthough boosting glutathione does not replace the King diet in the fight against collembola and strongyloides stercoralis, it does clear up inflammation and associated pain, brain fog, and fatigue. For the first time in history we may have finally an approach that can return Morgellon’s sufferers to normalcy–boosting glutathione and the King diet (go ahead and google “king diet”).

Several businesses catch fire in Queens, New York

Monday, November 3, 2008

Sunday, a fire rushed through seven businesses at the Whitestone Shopping Center in Whitestone, Queens, New York, near the Cross Island Parkway in New York City.

The fire started at around 1:00 AM EST (UTC-5) on November 2, 2008 in a diner known as Lollipops. According to local sources, Lollipops was a popular restaurant in the area. The fire spread through the stores, up an awning and continued all the way to a corner of the shopping center. In the end, seven businesses were destroyed, including two banks, two restaurants and a GNC Nutrition Center. It took dozens of firefighters to put out the large blaze.

According to WCBS-TV, with his diner Lollipops destroyed, the owner was too upset to comment.

Nearby Chinese restaurant, King’s Chef, was also damaged. “I cannot open because of whatever rules – tomorrow’s Monday, Tuesday is a holiday,” the owner, Patrick Chan, told WCBS-TV. “If I cannot get them to come tomorrow, I am going to lose big time.”

This is a calamity for many of these small businesses to be out of business, particularly in this economy.

Nearby residents reacted to the situation. Several residents have reported that it is a major loss to the community as they considered Lollipops to be a landmark. Several residents have reported knowing members of either the victim stores or others in the strip mall.

State Senator Frank Padavan commented on the loss of the shopping center.

“This is a calamity for many of these small businesses to be out of business, particularly in this economy,” he said.

The next day, investigators were boarding up the windows of the damaged stores. No one was hurt because all the stores were closed at the time of the blaze.
